ISLAMIC CENTER OF POLK COUNTY

About us

ABOUT OUR MASJID

Welcome to the
Islamic Center of Polk County.

It is our honor and privilege to welcome you to ICOPC. Through the gracious mercy of Allah (SWT), we are able to provide services for our community. We pray that Allah (SWT) guides us all in His mercy and forgives our transgressions.

Who are we?

The Islamic Center of Polk County (ICOPC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving Islam and our community.

OUR HISTORY

From a Friday gathering
to a home for our community.

The earlier masjid and its extension — from the ICOPC archives.

ICOPC began with a small group of Muslim families in Polk County, Florida, who wanted a masjid within an easy driving distance. To understand the community’s needs and ability to sustain a masjid, the families began renting a small room for Friday prayers.

With funds raised by the local Muslim community, they purchased a lot with a small house and obtained approval to convert it into a mosque. Land next to the masjid was later purchased for parking.

The earlier facility accommodated Sunday school classes, meetings, interfaith events, and overflow during Friday prayers and Ramadan. As attendance grew, an extension helped provide more space.

Recognizing the need for a larger masjid, the community began fundraising and purchased a nearby five-acre property for its future home.

A community that reaches beyond our walls.

Our location serves Muslims across a wide area, including Lake Placid, Sebring, Avon Park, Wauchula, and neighboring towns. ICOPC gratefully acknowledges the patience, assistance, guidance, and continuing support of our community, neighbors, county, local elected officials, and law enforcement community.

OUR PURPOSE

Goals & objectives.

Our mission is to seek the pleasure of Allah (SWT) through Iqamat-ud-Deen—the establishment of the Islamic way of life—according to the Quran and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

  • Establish congregational prayers and religious activities open to men, women, and children.
  • Arrange educational programs for all members of the family.
  • Develop mutual understanding with non-Muslims and communicate the principles of Islam.
How we work toward these goals
  1. Invite people to submit to the Creator through all means of communication.
  2. Offer educational and training opportunities that increase Islamic knowledge in the community.
  3. Motivate Muslims to fulfill their duties.
  4. Oppose immorality and oppression.
  5. Support efforts for civil liberties.
